Rare Wallet
Rare Wallet in Rare OS: passkey plus device PIN, recovery phrases, Ledger and Keystone, backups and recovery, and connecting to Sui games.
Rare Wallet is the wallet built into Rare OS. It holds your coins and collectibles, signs marketplace buys and trades, and connects to Sui games. The keys belong to you: no company account sits between you and your assets.
Open it from the Wallet tab. One sign-in covers Rare Wallet and Rare Marketplace.
Ways to sign in
You can add more accounts later: open the accounts switcher in Wallet and choose Add account.
Passkey and PIN
A passkey account has two keys, and either one can sign on its own:
So on the SuiPlay where you made the account, buying, sending and playing only ask for your PIN. Your phone is not needed for every transaction. The two keys together make your address, and it never changes.
Create an account
Pick Create account
In Wallet (or in the first-run setup), choose Create account.
Choose your phone or a security key
- Your phone: the SuiPlay shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone's camera and confirm with your face, fingerprint or screen lock. Keep Bluetooth on for both devices, and both need internet.
- A security key: plug a USB key, such as a YubiKey, into the USB-C port and touch it when it blinks. The key needs a PIN or a built-in fingerprint. Rare asks for the key's PIN when the key wants it.
Set a device PIN
Enter a 6 digit PIN, then enter it again. You can choose a passphrase of at least 8 characters instead. The PIN unlocks the device key on this SuiPlay and never leaves it.
Sign in on another device
Choose Sign in with a passkey and use the same phone or security key. Rare finds your account and rebuilds the same address.
A SuiPlay that did not create the account does not hold its device key. It asks your phone or security key to approve each transaction instead: one scan or tap per signature.
Recovery phrase
Create a new recovery phrase
In Add account, choose Create a new recovery phrase, then 12 or 24 words.
Write the words down
Write them down in order and keep them private. Anyone with them can take your assets. Rare cannot recover them for you.
Check your backup
Rare asks for three of the words to make sure your copy is right.
Set a PIN
The PIN unlocks the phrase on this device.
To import a phrase, choose Recovery phrase, type the first letters of each word and pick it from the list, or paste the whole phrase. With a phrase on the device, Add an account from your recovery phrase adds the next account of the same phrase.
Ledger
Get the Ledger ready
Unlock your Ledger and open the Sui app.
Connect it
In Other ways to sign in, choose Ledger, then how it is connected:
- USB: plug it in with a USB-C or USB cable.
- Bluetooth: Nano X, Stax and Flex. Turn Bluetooth on from the Ledger's settings.
Pick accounts
Rare lists the Ledger's accounts with their balances. Pick the ones to add.
Verify the address
Use Verify on device and check that the address on the Ledger matches the one on screen, then confirm there.
Every transaction is confirmed on the Ledger.
Keystone
Rare Wallet works with a Keystone 3 Pro over USB-C. The SuiPlay has no camera, so the QR flow is not used.
Turn on USB on the Keystone
On the Keystone, open Settings, Connection, and turn on USB. The Keystone needs the multi-coin firmware.
Connect it
Connect it with a USB-C cable. In Other ways to sign in, choose Keystone. Keep the Keystone unlocked and on its home screen while you add accounts.
Approve and pick accounts
Approve on the Keystone and enter its password. Then pick the accounts to add.
Over USB, the Keystone signs a transaction hash and shows that hash, not the decoded transaction. Rare Wallet's review shows what the transaction does and the same hash. Check that the hash on the Keystone matches the one on screen before you approve.
USB permission
If Rare says it needs permission to use your Ledger, Keystone or security key, it shows a one-line command. Run it once in a terminal in desktop mode, then plug the device in again. Wallet, Settings, Ledger and Keystone help shows it too.
Backups and recovery
If you lose your passkey but still have the SuiPlay that created the account, its device key can still sign with your PIN. Move your assets to a new account while you have it.
Wallet, Settings, Show recovery phrase or Show private key shows them again. Both need your PIN.
Keeping it locked
Keys on the device are encrypted with your PIN. They are kept in the system keyring when it is already unlocked, otherwise in an encrypted file. After a few wrong PINs, Rare makes you wait before the next try.
In Wallet, Settings:
- Lock now asks for your PIN next time.
- Lock after being idle: Off, 1, 5 or 15 minutes. The default is 15 minutes.
- Change PIN (or passphrase).
- Remove this account, or Remove all wallets from this device. Removing erases the keys on this device. Have your passkey, phrase or hardware wallet before you do it.
Every signature is reviewed
Nothing is signed without your approval. Before you approve, the review sheet shows:
- what leaves your wallet and what arrives
- the network fee
- any risks, such as a first send to an unknown address
Rare simulates the transaction first, so the review shows what it will really do. Then you approve with your PIN, your phone or security key, or on your Ledger or Keystone.
Connecting to games
Sui web games in Rare OS find Rare Wallet in their connect list, the same way a browser wallet shows up.
Connect from the game
In the game, choose Connect Wallet and pick Rare Wallet.
Choose the account to share
Rare shows which game wants to see your address and asks which account to share. Approve, and the game is connected.
Approve each request
A connected game can also ask you to sign. Every request still opens the review sheet, and nothing is signed without your approval.
Watched addresses can connect, but they cannot sign.
To disconnect a game, open Wallet, Settings, Connected games, and remove it.
