For players
Rare OS
Rare OS is a free system for the SuiPlay0X1 with Steam, every Sui game, Rare Wallet and Rare Marketplace in one controller-first launcher.
Rare OS is a new system for your SuiPlay0X1. It puts Steam, every Sui game, a wallet you control and the Rare Marketplace in one launcher built for the controller. It is free, and your games and files stay when you switch.
Rare OS is made for the SuiPlay0X1 first. The same install command also works on other image-based Linux handhelds and PCs.
Rare Launcher
Rare Launcher is the screen you see when Rare OS starts. It is the home screen, the library and the store front in one, and everything in it works with the controller.
The top bar has seven tabs. LB and RB switch between them.
Y opens search on every screen. It finds installed games, Sui games and marketplace collections.
What you get
- Steam. The real Steam client, one press away. Steam games launch through Steam, so Proton, Steam Input, achievements, cloud saves and the overlay work like on a Steam Deck.
- One library. Steam, Epic, GOG, itch.io, web games and game folders in one place. Games already on the device, on an SD card or left by your previous system show up by themselves.
- Every Sui game. Web games run full screen with the controller, the on-screen keyboard and your wallet already connected.
- A wallet you control. Rare Wallet signs in with a passkey on your phone or a security key. Ledger and Keystone work too. Nobody else holds your keys.
- Rare Marketplace. Buy and sell Sui NFTs with the controller.
- Trading. Swap coins at the best price across Sui exchanges and trade perps without leaving the launcher.
- Cloud saves. Steam Cloud keeps your Steam saves in sync. Emulator and web game saves back up to Walrus, encrypted with a key from your wallet.
- Share. Take a screenshot or keep the last 30 seconds of play, and share it as a link on rare.market.
- Trophies. Your Steam achievements in one trophy case on your profile.
- Quick settings. Performance presets, power limit, frame limit, brightness and volume, one button away.
- Desktop mode. A full desktop for files, apps and emulators when you want it.
You do not need an account to play. Your games work without signing in. Rare Wallet, the marketplace and trading use a passkey, Ledger or Keystone that only you control.
Updates you can undo
Every Rare OS update is a complete, signed system image. Rare OS downloads it in the background and switches to it on the next restart. The previous version stays installed next to it, so you can always go back.
- Every update must carry a valid Rare signature, or it is not installed.
- If an update misbehaves, pick the previous version in the boot menu.
- Your home folder, games and settings are the same in both versions.
The system you switched from also stays installed, so you can go back to it the same way. See Install Rare OS for how.
Rare Launcher without Rare OS
Rare Launcher also builds as a standalone app (an x86_64 AppImage) for SteamOS and other desktop Linux systems. It runs on top of your current system and changes nothing about it. Features that come from the system image, such as signed updates you can roll back, need Rare OS itself.
A public download of the standalone launcher is not available yet.
