Fees and royalties

What Rare charges on marketplace trades and launchpad mints, who pays it, the on-chain caps, aggregated buys from other venues, and how creator royalties work.

Rare charges 0.1% on trades through its own marketplace contract and on launchpad mints. It charges nothing on listings bought from other venues, and it takes no share of creator royalties. Network gas is separate and paid by whoever signs the transaction.

The rates below are read from the live Config objects on Sui mainnet, not from code defaults. You can check them yourself on Suiscan.

Rare Marketplace

Read from the marketplace Config of the market package.

TradeFeeWho paysHow
Listing (kiosk or wallet item)0.1% (10 bps) of the priceSellerTaken out of the sale price. The buyer pays the listed price and the seller receives the price less 0.1%. The rate is locked in when the item is listed.
Offer (item, collection or trait offer, and offer pools)0.1% (10 bps) of the offer priceBidderAdded on top of the offer price and held with the offer. The seller who accepts receives the full offer price. A cancelled or expired offer returns everything, fee included.
Swap0.1% (10 bps) of the SUI on each sideEach side, on its own SUICharged only when the swap settles. A cancelled swap returns the fee.
  • Cap. No marketplace fee can be set above 3% (300 bps). The contract refuses anything higher.
  • Changes. A new rate is queued on chain and can only apply 48 hours later, so a change is visible in the Config for two days before it takes effect.
  • Rounding. Fees round down, so a trade below 1,000 MIST (0.000001 SUI) pays no fee.

Launchpad

Read from the launchpad Config of the launchpad package.

Fee0.1% (10 bps) of mint proceeds
Who paysThe creator. The fee is taken out of what the minter pays, not added on top, so the minter pays exactly the mint price.
WhenOn each mint, at the rate in force then. It is held with the proceeds and sent to Rare when they are paid out to the creator's payees. Reserve mints and airdrops pay no fee.
Cap5% (500 bps). The contract refuses anything higher.
ChangesQueued on chain and applied after 48 hours.

Listings from other venues

rare.market also shows and buys listings from other Sui marketplaces. Rare adds no fee to these buys.

VenueWhat the buyer pays
TradeportThe price, Tradeport's own fee and the creator royalty.
DripThe price and the creator royalty. Drip listings are bought straight from the seller's kiosk, so there is no Drip fee. If that path fails, the buy goes through Drip's own contract and Drip's fee applies.
Plain kiosk listingsThe price and the creator royalty.

Every price on rare.market is all-in: price, venue fee and royalty. See Listings across venues.

Creator royalties

  • Set by the creator. A collection's royalty lives in its own TransferPolicy on Sui (Mysten's royalty_rule). The creator chooses it and can change it there. Launchpad creators set it when they create the collection.
  • Enforced on chain. A kiosk item can only change owner when its transfer policy is satisfied, so the royalty is paid on every sale that goes through the policy, on any marketplace.
  • Rare takes none. The full royalty goes to the collection's policy, where the creator withdraws it.
  • Who pays. On a listing the buyer pays the royalty on top of the price. On an offer it comes from the amount the bidder set aside with the offer, and any unused part goes back to the bidder.

Each collection's rate is in the API as royaltyBps. See Collections and stats.
